Jack - "Half Cut, Wholly Yours" (album: "The Jazz age" - Too Pure, 1998)

Change your clothes again
kiss the ticket
for the subway train
where you'll sleep and ride for miles and miles
'til you and her
you're once again inside
with that secondhand dress
and anything worth more money
it couldn't help but mean much less
in our eyes
our ragged deep blue lives
and I confess

I am fallen
another Catholic casualty
misunderstood until proven guilty

I'm half cut and wholly yours
I'm all yours

Remember this
we were two lovers
two lovers in the sticks
ahead of our time
why, I was gone on your skin
we were drunk on wine
speeding like mad
through afternoons and films so sad
they're only shown
when the country's at work
but you, you and me
we'll never ever work
and I confess

I am fallen
another Catholic casualty
misunderstood until proven guilty

I'm half cut and wholly yours
I'm all yours

So I was born again
half asleep on a subway train
down where the sun
it don't shine
headed south
on the Northern line
