17 - Neil Young "A letter home" (Third Man Records)

Στη δεκαετία του '50, εμπαινες σ ενα κουτι σαν αυτο στο εξωφυλλο του άλμπουμ και έκοβες τον προσωπικο σου δισκο, για τη κοπέλα σου ή για οποιονδηποτε. Ο Jack White έχει ενα τέτοιο. Το είδε ο Neil Young και αποφάσισε να ηχογραφήσει έναν ολόκληρο δίσκο εκει μέσα. Με διασκευές. Που μοιάζουν σα να ταξίδεψαν στο χρόνο, έτσι αιώνια που είναι κομμάτια σαν το "My hometown" του Bruce Springsteen (τι τιμή κι αυτή - να σε διασκευάζει ο Young). Τις έγραψε, τις εκοψε σε βινύλιο και απ αυτο το βινύλιο, διχως καμία επεξεργασία, προέκυψε ένας δισκος μεταμοντέρνος με την κυριολεκτική έννοια του όρου (και όποιος δεν το αντιλαμβάνεται, ας το ξανασκεφτεί). Πριν απ' όλα όμως, ηχογράφησε ένα μήνυμα για τη μαμά του. Ακούγεται στην αρχή. "I miss you. And, you know I'’d like you to say hello to Ben for me and, tell him that I'll be around, ah, I'’ll be there eventually. Not for a while though, I still have a lot of work to do here". Σ'αγαπάω ρε Neil.

1. Neil Young "Le Noise"

Ο Neil Young μισεί τα overdubs. Και κάνει δίσκο με τον Patrick Lenois. Παραγωγό, μεταξύ άλλων, των U2 και του Peter Gabriel. Οπότε, σου λέει ο δεύτερος, αντί να προσθέσω το παραμικρό, θα πάρω ότι, μα ότι έχει να μου δώσει ο Young. Ένα σπίτι ολόκληρο γίνεται στούντιο, με μικρόφωνα σε στρατηγικά σημεία, να αποτυπώνουν κάθε σπιθαμή ήχου μέσα στο χώρο. Η εξωπραγματική κιθάρα του Neil. Οι καλύτερες συνθέσεις του - και οι πιο εσωτερικοί, βαθιά προσωπικοί του στίχοι - των τελευταίων 15 ετών. Κάτι από το ambience του Dead Μan του Jarmusch. Και ένας αγωγός που ξεκινά από το βύσμα του ενισχυτή του και πετυχαίνει διάνα στην καρδιά μου. Με τρόπο ανεπανάληπτο. Που μόνο το ανεκτίμητο της Μουσικής υπογραμμίζει.
